DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

This title is used in the Town of Babylon for a workforce of people in the Operation Community Pride Program.  Incumbents assist with the performance of unskilled tasks aimed at improving the quality of life by maintaining, repairing and/or renovating community open spaces, buildings and facilities.  Work is performed under direct supervision of a Labor Crew Leader or maintenance personnel depending on assignment.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Sweeps and removes litter from town facilities, roadways, and vacant lots;

            Clears streams, beaches, lakes, ponds, and banks of debris;

            Assists with the performance of a variety of grounds maintenance activities, such as mowing lawns, trimming lawn edges, gathering leaves, planting new trees and shrubs;

            Assists with simple painting to clean up graffiti;

            Assists higher-level employees with simple maintenance tasks throughout the Town.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Ability to understand and follow simple oral instructions; ability to use basic hand tools; ability to learn to operate simple machinery; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
