DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under direct supervision, an employee in this class performs
semi-skilled manual work in the maintenance of beach facilities and in the
rendering of a variety of services to public beach users. The incumbent is trained to perform routine
tasks according to standardized policies, rules and regulations. Supervision in regular and special
assignments is provided by an employee of higher rank who conducted periodic
inspections. Work is of a manual
nature, ranging from light to heavy.
Does related work as required.
Maintains the
cleanliness of beach areas, restrooms, eating facilities, and showers;
Provides the public with information
about beach facilities, services, rules and regulations;
Collects required fees
and assigns parking, playing, picnicking and other areas;
Patrols beach areas to
prevent theft, detect fires, and enforce safety regulations;
Keeps simple records
and prepares periodic reports.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of public beach rules and regulations; working knowledge
of the use of simple hand tools; ability to deal effectively with the public;
ability to provide the public with information about beach facilities and
rules; ability to look after the safety and welfare of beach visitors; ability
to follow oral and written instructions and to keep simple records; ability to
enforce regulations firmly; tact; impartiality; physical condition commensurate
with the demands of the position.
