DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class performs routine duties in the disposal on shore of waste materials by an offshore dredge.  The incumbent is responsible for the handling and tending of pipelines and related equipment.  The incumbent is supervised directly by a supervising dredge officer.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Installs and removes pipeline to and from designated grades of fill area;

Watches discharge of various types of excavated material for proper pumping speed and safety requirements;

            Charges, extends and shortens pipe sections to ensure proper distribution of spoil;

            Loads and unloads pipe sections for installation and removal from shoreline;

Assists deckhands in movement of pontoons or maintenance work on cables, pumps and anchors.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Some knowledge of dredge operations; some knowledge of minor mechanical equipment and hand tools; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
