DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An
employee in this class performs a variety of manual and maintenance tasks
aboard a dredge. Under immediate
supervision, an employee is responsible for the satisfactory performance of a
variety of light and heavy manual laboring tasks in maintaining a dredge. The incumbent may perform elementary
equipment operation, and may require skills, which can readily be learned on
the job. Duties may be routine and
repetitive in nature and once learned, can be carried on without difficulty and
under general supervision. Does related
work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Assists
in maintaining dredge equipment in good operating condition;
Cleans, scrapes and
paints boat surfaces and attached pipeline;
Checks and replaces
lights on floating and stationary equipment;
Repairs and operates
rowboats as required;
Tends and adjusts ropes
and pipelines during pumping, loading, unloading or similar operations;
Operates pumping
machinery to empty boats of water;
Assists in installing and
anchoring pontoons, short pipelines and trestles.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Some knowledge
of dredge operations and equipment; some knowledge of types and operations of
routine mechanical equipment and hand tools; ability to operate pumping
equipment and tend pipelines; ability to handle simple tools and to perform
general routine maintenance tasks aboard a dredge; physical condition
commensurate with the demands of the position.
