DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under direct supervision, an employee in this class assists in safeguarding County parks and facilities, and in maintaining public order therein. The incumbent stands watch at an assigned station or patrols the grounds making security and safety checks. Stations and patrol areas are assigned by a Park Security Aide II who makes periodic checks for the performance of duties. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Secures and opens park
gates at specified times;
Works entrance booth
to check or issue park permits;
Provides information
and assistance to park visitors;
Assists in directing
traffic and enforcing park regulations;
May assist maintenance personnel.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Working knowledge of park rules, regulations and procedures; ability to
direct traffic; ability to enforce park regulations firmly and fairly; ability
to act quickly and calmly in emergencies; ability to learn basic emergency
first aid methods; ability to understand and carry out written and oral
instructions; ability to express oneself clearly, both orally and in writing;
courtesy, tact; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the
position.

education or experience requirements or this position.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1) Depending upon
assignment, possession of a valid New York State driver's license at time of
appointment; if required, license must be maintained throughout employment in
this title.
2) Upon appointment, candidates must apply for
registration as a guard with the New York State Department of State, Division
of Licensing Services. Registration
must be maintained throughout employment in
this title.
