DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The work involves performing routine duties involving the maintenance
and repair of town or village parking meters.
The employee may assist in issuing parking summonses and collecting
coins from meters when not engaged in repair work. Work is performed under the supervision of a Parking Meter
Supervisor or an assigned Town official and is evaluated through periodic
conferences and inspections of repaired meters. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Inspects parking meters periodically to replace or repair damaged meter mechanisms; lubricates the functional parts of the meter head on a regular basis;
Replaces broken meter
head windows and bent coin entrance slides;
Replaces damaged
parking meter heads and pipes; straightens bent meter pipes, cements or
tightens bolts on loose pipes;
Cleans and paints
parking meter heads and pipes when necessary;
May issue summonses,
collect monies and assist in the counting and depositing of meter revenues when
not engaged in repair work.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of the operational characteristics of parking meter
mechanisms; good knowledge of the standard tools and materials used in the
maintenance and repair of parking meters; ability to repair parking meters;
ability to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner; ability to
understand and follow oral and written instructions; physical condition
commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
a) Two years of
experience in mechanical maintenance and repair work; or,
b) Completion of a
recognized course in the maintenance and repair of parking meters.
