DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The
work involves reading and recording readings of electric and/or water meters on
an assigned route in a municipality.
The employee records volume used by residential and commercial
consumers. The work may include minor
meter repairs and investigation of unusual volume usage. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Periodically
records meter readings in route book;
Inspects meters for
defects or damage;
May install and repair
water meters;
Notifies consumers of
shut-offs due to emergency repairs;
Assists in the handling
of complaints;
Answers questions on rates
and other matters related to water service.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Some
knowledge of the operational characteristics of water meters; ability to work
in both favorable and unfavorable weather conditions; ability to deal with the
public in a courteous and tactful manner; ability to follow simple oral and
written instructions; ability to keep simple records.
