DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under general supervision, an employee of this class is responsible for planning and supervising the work schedules and routes of personnel in the proper accounting of water used in residential, commercial and industrial sites. The incumbent supervises the repair and maintenance of meters.  Work involves determining work methods and procedures as well as participating in the assignments.  Supervision is exercised over personnel engaged in the repair and reading of water meters.  Work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative supervisor.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Programs and maps meter reading routes;

          Programs the collection of delinquent bills as necessary;

          Maintains records of work assignments, meter repairs and installations;

          Takes the final meter reading upon termination of services;

          Responds to consumers telephone inquires and complaints.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Good knowledge of the operational characteristics of water meters;  good knowledge of the geography of the water district; ability to keep accurate records of monies collected;  ability to follow oral and written instructions;  ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of ten school grades and three (3) years of experience in the reading and repair of water meters.

 

NOTE:  Additional experience will be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
