DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An
employee in this class performs technical work in the installation, maintenance
and repair of a variety of microcomputers and related electronic equipment.
Work is performed with a considerable degree of technical independence. The
incumbent is instructed only as to the nature and location of services needed.
Work is performed under general supervision, and is reviewed by a technical or
administrative supervisor through inspection and reports of work completed.
Does related work as required.
TYPICAL
WORK ACTIVITIES
Repairs and maintains microcomputer
equipment and related components;
Replaces electrical and mechanical parts
and services defective circuitry;
Operates diagnostic and testing
equipment, both in the field and at a repair facility;
Maintains records of work completed;
May supervise workers performing less
technical related repairs on ancillary equipment.

PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good
knowledge in the field of microcomputer technology and repair; skill in the use
and maintenance of the necessary electrical and electro-mechanical tools and
testing devices; ability to perform required duties in the repair and
maintenance of microcomputers and ancillary equipment; ability to read and
interpret electrical schematics and blueprints; ability to follow oral and
written directions; ability to maintain comprehensive records and to write
concise and accurate reports; physical condition commensurate with the demands
of the position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Either:
(a)
Completion of a certificate or degree program in Electronic Technology or a
related field from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or
university or from a technical school recognized by the State Department of
Education; or,
(b) Graduation from a standard
senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and one
(1) year of experience in the repair and maintenance of solid state electronic
equipment or circuitry; or,
(c)
An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits
of (a) and (b).
