MICROCOMPUTER REPAIR TECHNICIAN 7180
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class assigns and supervises the maintenance and repair work of Microcomputer Repair Technicians. At times, the incumbent installs, maintains, tests and repairs a variety of microcomputers and related equipment. The incumbent exercises considerable initiative and technical independence in the performance of duties. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed by an administrative supervisor through examination of completed work reports. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Inspects the work of
technicians to insure that repairs and maintenance have been satisfactorily
completed;
Trains new technicians in
use of advanced testing equipment and repair techniques;
Establishes preventive
maintenance schedules; and maintains appropriate records;
Assists in shop repair of
those microcomputers that cannot be repaired in the field;
Reads and interprets
electrical sketches and blueprints;
Maintains inventory records
and orders necessary parts and supplies.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS Thorough knowledge of microcomputer
technology and repair techniques; good knowledge of the basic principles and
theories of electricity; good knowledge of occupational hazards and safety
precautions of the electrical trade; skill in use and maintenance of necessary
electrical and electro-mechanical tools and testing devices; ability to perform
required duties in repair and maintenance of microcomputers and auxiliary
equipment; ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints;
ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of others in a manner conductive
to full performance and high morale; ability to express oneself clearly and
concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the
demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Either:
(a) Graduation from a New
York State or Regionally accredited college or university with an Associate's
Degree in Electrical Technology or a related field, and three (3) years of
experience in the repair and maintenance of solid state electronic equipment or
circuitry; or,
(b) Completion of a
certificate program in Electronic Technology from a technical school recognized
by the State Department of Education, and four (4) years of experience in the
repair and maintenance of solid state electronic equipment or circuitry; or,
(c) Graduation from a
standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma,
and five (5) years of experience in the repair and maintenance solid state
electronic equipment or circuitry; or,
(d) An equivalent
combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (a), (b)
and (c).
PROMOTIONAL
Two (2) years of permanent
status as a Microcomputer Repair Technician.
