DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class supervises laborers and groundskeepers
in the care of golf course grounds, trees, shrubbery and related property
within a Village. The nature of the work
requires that the Greenskeeper be available on a stand-by basis in addition to
regular working hours. Duties are
performed without direct or continuing supervision, although work is subject to
check while in progress and at completion.
Does related work as required.
Supervises
seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, watering, mowing, and repair of greens,
tees, roughs, fairways and practice putting greens;
Orders
materials, supplies and equipment for upkeep and maintenance of golf course;
Keeps
employee time records and arranges work schedules;
Inspects
maintenance equipment to insure its efficient functioning;
Inspects
entire area under his supervision to insure that work orders are thoroughly
executed and that grounds are in clean condition.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES,
SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials and
equipment used in golf course maintenance; ability to supervise subordinates in
such a way as to attain a consistently good level or work; ability to maintain
simple records; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the
position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Five years of experience in golf course maintenance.
NOTE: Relevant course work in the area of turf grass
management may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
