DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee in this class
operates an outboard motorboat and the pumps used to unload liquid waste from
other boats. The incumbent will also be
responsible for discharging the waste into the designated disposal
facility. Work is routine and repetitive in nature and once learned can be carried
out without difficulty and under only general supervision. Performs related work as required.
Operates an outboard
motorboat and attached pumpout equipment;
Communicates with
boats via radio and hand signals;
Navigates the boat in
congested and open bodies of water;
Refuels the pump and
the vessel motors;
Transfers the waste
line to the vessel requesting assistance;
Inspects and maintains
the vessel in good operational and clean condition, reports any
problems or repairs;
May verify that the moored vessels have the proper authorization to
occupy the space, submits reports of problem vessels.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of the operation, maintenance, limitations and
safety practices of an outboard motorboat; good knowledge of applicable United
States Coast Guard regulations concerning safety, rules of the road and
navigation; working knowledge of liquid pumps and motors; skill in operating an
outboard motorboat with pumping equipment; ability to communicate with other
vessels via radio or hand signals; ability to maintain records and logs;
physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a certificate reflecting the successful completion of a
boating safety course and one (1) year of experience operating an outboard
motorboat.
