TOWN PARK MAINTENANCE DIRECTOR 7346
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee in this class acts
in an administrative capacity to coordinate all functions within a parks
maintenance unit. The employee also
prepares budgetary information for the unit, orders supplies, and prepares cost
reports regarding the unit's activities.
This position differs from Town Park Maintenance Supervisor in that the
Town Park Maintenance Director coordinates his work with other units, such as
town maintenance. Supervision is
exercised over park maintenance personnel.
Work is reviewed by an administrative superior through consultation,
staff conferences and written reports. Performs
related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Assigns and supervises the work of the park maintenance
staff;
Supervises
the maintenance of central supplies, records, and equipment in the parks
maintenance unit;
Prepares budgetary
data for the unit, including cost reports for proposed and completed projects;
Acts in an
administrative capacity to control all functions in the parks maintenance unit;
Coordinates
efforts with the Town Maintenance Supervisor for projects involving parks and
building maintenance, repairs and construction;
Reviews
work to ensure compliance with departmental time schedules and standards;
May
represent an administrative superior at departmental meetings.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of the methods used in the
installation and repair of park equipment; good knowledge of the tools,
terminology and practices of the maintenance and construction trades; ability
to make accurate estimates of labor, time, and materials; ability to keep
accurate records; ability to prepare, interpret and work from technical
sketches and plans; ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of
subordinate personnel in a manner conducive to full performance and high
morale; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN
COMPETITIVE
(a)
Graduation from college federally-authorized accreditation or registration by
NY State with a Bachelor's Degree and one (1) year of supervisory experience in
the performance of maintenance or construction activities; or,
(b)
Graduation from a standard senior high school and five (5) years of experience
in the performance or direction of a variety of maintenance or construction
activities, two (2) of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or,
(c) An
equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of
(a) and (b).
PROMOTIONAL
Two (2)
years of permanent competitive status as an Assistant Town Parks Maintenance
Director.
