DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under general supervision, an employee in this class assists in coordinating all functions within a parks maintenance unit.  The employee works in conjunction with the Town Park Maintenance Director in preparing budgetary information for the unit, ordering supplies, and preparing cost reports regarding the unit's activities. Supervision is exercised over park maintenance personnel.  Work is reviewed by the Town Park Maintenance Director through conferences and written reports.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

               Assigns and supervises the work of the park maintenance staff;

               Supervises the maintenance of central supplies, records and equipment in the parks maintenance unit;

               Assists in the preparation of budgetary data for the unit, including cost reports for proposed and completed projects;

               Assists in coordinating efforts for projects involving parks and building maintenance, repairs and construction;

               Reviews work to ensure compliance with departmental time schedules and standards.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of the methods used in the installation and repair of park equipment; good knowledge of the tools, terminology and practices of the maintenance and construction trades; ability to make accurate estimates of labor, time, and materials; ability to keep accurate records; ability to pre­pare, interpret and work from technical sketches and plans; ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinate personnel in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

               OPEN COMPETITIVE

               Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years experi­ence in the performance or direction of a variety of maintenance or construction activities, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.

 

NOTE:  Education beyond high school from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university may be substituted for the non-supervisory experience on a year-for-year basis.
