DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, a Heavy Equipment Repair Supervisor
coordinates and supervises a staff involved in the building, maintenance and
repair of diesel engine equipment, related transmissions and heavy
equipment. The incumbent is in charge
of establishing and managing in-service training programs for the staff of
mechanics, auto servicemen, stockmen and stock clerks under supervision. A Heavy Equipment Supervisor is accountable
to an administrative superior via conferences and written reports.
Develops and
implements a program of building, maintenance and repair of diesel engine
equipment, e.g., diesel engines and related transmissions, fuel injection
systems, and rear ends;
Supervises and directs a large number of mechanics and auto servicemen, through foreman; as well as, stockmen and stock clerks;
Diagnoses causes of
equipment failure and malfunction;
Evaluates equipment
condition and makes recommendations for equipment replacement or repair;
Assists in preparing
equipment specifications and departmental budgets;
Prepares purchase
orders for tools, equipment, parts, materials and supplies;
Conducts studies on
the productivity of the division;
Prepares reports
Institutes and directs
the in-service training programs for the staff of mechanics, auto servicemen,
stockmen and stockclerks.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, methods, materials and tools
needed for the building, maintenance and repair of diesel engines and related
transmissions and heavy equipment; ability to plan, assign and supervise the
work of subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale;
ability to maintain comprehensive maintenance and repair records for a large
number of diesel engine equipment and related transmissions and heavy
equipment; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in
writing; ability to understand and interpret complex technical drawings and
specifications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Seven years of
experience in the repair and maintenance of diesel engine equipment, automotive
transmissions and heavy equipment, including at least two years in a position
involving responsibility for the supervision of a wide range of repair work on
a fleet of vehicles.
