INSPECTION SUPERVISOR 7395
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE
CLASS
The
employee in this class is responsible for the supervision of Sanitation
Inspectors and Senior Sanitation Inspectors. Work is performed in accordance
with local codes and ordinances and is reviewed directly by the Commissioner
and/or Division Director through frequent inspections, conferences and written
reports. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Supervises
Sanitation Inspectors and Senior Sanitation Inspectors;
Responsible
for field inspections to determine compliance with refuse codes and
regulations;
Assigns
inspections to staff and may perform non-routine inspections personally;
Supervises
the inspection of refuse collection performed by private companies under
contract with the jurisdiction;
Evaluates
contractual agreements with aforementioned parties and assists in the
formulation of such agreements;
Prepares
specialized reports pursuant to said functions for submission to Division
Director;
Recommends
action(s) to correct violations which have been identified;
Makes
follow-ups on known violation(s) to ensure compliance with local refuse codes;
May
assist the Division Director in the need for and in the requisition of
specialized equipment;
Acts
as liaison between Sanitation Inspection staff and management staff in the
Division to ensure coordination of effort;
May
act as a representative of the Division's management with residents, concerned
parties, and/or other departmental officials in their absence.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES,
SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough
knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques utilized in the modern
sanitation collection and disposal operations; thorough knowledge of the local
laws, codes and ordinances governing the collection and disposal of refuse;
thorough knowledge of effective supervisory techniques; ability to delegate authority
and to plan and supervise the work of others in a manner conducive to full
performance and high morale; ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships with department heads and the general public; ability to
express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN
COMPETITIVE
Either:
(a)
Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university
with an Associate's Degree, and three (3) years of experience in inspection or
investigation relating to sanitation or established codes or regulations, two
(2) of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or,
(b)
Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school
equivalency diploma recognized by the New York State Department of Education,
and five (5) years of experience in inspection or investigation relating to
sanitation or established codes or regulations, two (2) of which must have been
in a supervisory capacity; or,
(c)
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits
of a) and b).
PROMOTIONAL
Two
(2) years of permanent competitive status as a Senior Sanitation Inspector.
