FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee in this class operates a Type C water treatment plant without facilities for filtration that serves 1,000 people or less. This employee may also work in a IIB plant as an assistant to the IIB Water Treatment Plant Operator. The incumbent monitors, operates and maintains one or more ground-well pumping stations, applies chemicals to the water distribution system, and monitors and regulates reservoir level. This class differs from other classes of Water Treatment Plant Operators by virtue of the size of the population served, the type of treatment performed and the type of certification required; these criteria are established by the New York State Sanitary Code, Subpart 5-4. The Operator works independently, and may supervise maintenance personnel and instruct Water Treatment Plant Operator Trainees.
