SENIOR WATER PLANT OPERATOR (TYPE D)                   7420

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class is responsible for the operation of a Type D Water Distribution Plant which pumps and distributes potable water not requiring chemical additives or other treatment procedures and serves 1,000 or more people. The incumbent supervises the operation of one or more ground well pumping stations, and the monitoring and regulation of reservoir levels.  This class differs from other classes of Senior Water Treatment Plant Operators by virtue of the size of the population served, the type of license required; and the fact that this is solely a pumping and distribution operation rather than a treatment facility, these criteria are established by the New York State Sanitary Code.  The senior operator's work differs from that of an operator in the higher degree of independence, initiative and responsibility delegated by an administrative or technical superior in the day-to-day operations and functions of the treatment plant.  Work is reviewed by an administrative or technical superior.  Does related work as required.
