DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Administers
the overall functioning of a Street Lighting District. Oversees the technical operations and
supervises the fiscal and personnel functions of a Street Lighting
District. Work is performed
independently under the general supervision of a higher-level
administrator. Does related work as
required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Administers
the operation and staffing of a Street Lighting District;
Prepares and maintains
purchasing and disbursement of funds from district budget;
Supervises and reviews
engineering studies done by outside companies;
Directs all work done by
subordinate personnel, overseeing such work as street light maintenance,
electrical equipment installation, and related utility pole maintenance;
Maintains records on
energy related costs of electricity;
May maintain town
building electrical services and town electrical budget.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Comprehensive
knowledge of electrical and physical principles of electricity as it relates to
a Street Lighting District; thorough knowledge of the use of electrical
distribution systems; thorough knowledge of underground and overhead electrical
equipment, installation and safety; thorough knowledge of the National Code,
Long Island Power Authority rules and regulations, OSHA Electrical rules and
regulations, and pertinent telephone and cable rules and regulations as they
pertain to a Street Lighting district; ability to figure Kilowatts,
Kilowatt-hour costs, fuel adjustment costs, material and labor costs; ability
to maintain an effective working relationship with subordinates, utility
companies, engineers and architects; ability to prepare accurate reports;
physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
(a) Graduation from
a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with a
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and four (4) years of experience in
maintaining electrical systems, two (2) of which
were in a supervisory capacity; or,
(b) Graduation
from a standard Senior High School and eight (8) years of experience in
maintaining electrical systems, two (2) of which were in a supervisory
capacity; or,
(c) An
equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of
(a) and (b).
NOTE: Possession of a
Master Electrician License may be substituted for four (4) years of
non-supervisory experience.
