DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under direct supervision, an employee in this class assists in the scheduling of work assignments and coordination of activities of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance mechanics engaged in the alteration, maintenance and repair of a variety of municipal facilities.  Duties require knowledge of building construction trades.  Work is reviewed for compliance with procedures, accuracy of records and reports and through the observation of work performed.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Assists in scheduling work assignments submitted by building maintenance managers and department heads;

            Assists in the coordination of activities of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance mechanics;

            Receives requests for emergency repairs and coordinates projects among maintenance managers and administrators;

            Receives requests for Building Service Requests and coordinates projects among maintenance managers and administrators;

            Keeps records of work activities assigned.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Knowledge of the alteration, maintenance and repair of large-scale buildings; knowledge of tools, terminology and practices of the mechanical and construction trades; ability to prepare work schedules and estimate materials requirements; ability to carry out oral and written instructions and to manage routine operations; ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers, administrators and supervisors; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to keep records and prepare reports; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

            OPEN COMPETITIVE

Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and three (3) years of experience in the building construction trades.

 

NOTE:  Additional education in construction technology or a related field will be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
