DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under general supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for the daily control of the cleaning of owned or rented facilities. The incumbent assists in the administration, supervision and direction of the operations of the security staff, including services performed by outside contractors. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Supervises the custodial services
for all owned or rented facilities;
Performs studies on the division's
organization, procedures and workload; prepares recommendations for improved
methods and alternative courses of action;
Supervises a comprehensive building
cleaning program in all owned and operated buildings;
Assists in the preparation of the
division's budget, annual reports and special reports;
Assists in the administration of
security services.
FULL PERFORMANCE
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough
knowledge of the materials and methods used in large scale building cleaning;
good knowledge of current, effective security measures; good knowledge of
effective supervisory methods and techniques; ability to coordinate the
allocation of employees, equipment and materials; ability to maintain accurate
records and prepare reports; ability to train and supervise personnel in a
manner conducive to full performance and high morale; good judgment; physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Five (5) years of experience in a
variety of buildings and grounds maintenance or custodial activities, three (3)
years of which must have been in a responsible supervisory or administrative capacity.
NOTE: Education from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or
registration by New York State will be
substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis to maximum of four (4)
years, provided, however, that the candidate possess at least one (1) year of
supervisory or administrative experience in buildings and grounds maintenance
or custodial activities.
PROMOTIONAL
Two (2) years of permanent status as
a Custodial Worker III.
NECESSARY SPECIAL
REQUIREMENTS
1)
Upon appointment,
candidates must apply for registration as a security guard with the New York
State Department of State, Division of Licensing Services, and maintain said
license throughout employment in this title.
2)
At the time of appointment and during
employment in this title, employees are required to possess a valid license to
operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
