ASSISTANT AIRPORT MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

Under direct supervision,
an employee in this class is responsible for assisting in performing
maintenance and repair work covering several buildings and mechanical trades,
as well as grounds- keeping and runway repair. Performs related work as
required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Assist in
the maintenance of airport buildings and grounds in such craft areas as
carpentry, plumbing, heating and air conditioning;
Assist in inspection of all aeronautical areas in
accordance with Federal Aviation regulations including runways, taxiways and
parking areas;
Assist in
the maintenance and associated repair of all aeronautical areas and repainting
of ground markings as necessary;
Assist in
the inspection, maintenance and repair of all ground support equipment and
airport lighting;
Assist in
the maintenance and repair of all airport security fencing;
Assist in
monitoring deer and bird hazards and takes appropriate actions necessary;
Assist in
the performance of routine snow removal and grass cutting.
Good knowledge of the
standard tools, materials, methods and practices of the craft areas to which
assigned; working knowledge of the methods and practices employed in the
performance of aircraft, ground support equipment and aviation fuels; working
knowledge of fire fighting equipment and its use and the methods and procedures
employed in airport crash and rescue activities; ability to understand and
follow oral and written instructions; physical condition commensurate with the
demands of the position.
Either:
(a) Completion of one (1) year of
vocational education courses in either a vocational school program or in an
apprentice or training program in airport maintenance and repair and one (1)
year of experience in the maintenance and repair of airport facilities; or
(b)
Two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of
airport facilities; or
(c) Satisfactory equivalent
combination of the above education and experience.
