DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under
general supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for the
supervision of the custodial and laundry operation in a county institution. The
incumbent is in charge of all housekeeping supplies; and keeps all personnel
records of the custodial staff. Work is performed under general supervision,
and is reviewed by conferences over work problems, and by occasional inspection
and observation of results attained. Does related work as required.
Assigns,
schedules and supervises the work of employees engaged in cleaning and making
beds and cleaning rooms, halls and furniture, laundering and sewing;
Inspects halls, rooms and
finished laundered and sewn goods;
Issues changes of
clothing to residents in accordance with established schedule; supervises
alteration and mending of linens and wearing apparel;
Requisitions, stores and
distributes sewing, linen and cleaning supplies; keeps inventory of materials
and supplies; receives, sorts and distributes all donated clothing;
Keeps employee records
and prepares time sheets and work schedules;
Interviews prospective
employees for institutional housekeeping work.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS
Good
knowledge of materials, equipment and methods used in cleaning building areas;
ability to plan, assign supervise and inspect the custodial and laundry work of
personnel in a manner conducive to high standards and full performance; ability
to keep records and make reports; ability to understand, follow, and transmit
oral and written instructions; physical condition commensurate with the demands
of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation
from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency
diploma, and three (3) years of experience in institutional or hospital
housekeeping work; or,
Satisfactory equivalent
combination of the above education and experience.
