DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under direct supervision, an employee in this class performs manual work cleaning municipal buildings.  The employee is responsible for a variety of housekeeping duties during an assigned shift.  Detailed instructions and close supervision are received at the beginning of work and on new assign­ments, but many tasks may be routine and repetitive, and once learned can be performed without difficulty and under less supervision.  The work differs from that of a Custodial Worker I in that the incumbent is not required to perform minor repairs or heavy manual tasks required of the Custodial Worker I.  The work is performed under direct supervision of a higher-level custodial worker or other assigned supervisory personnel.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Sweeps, mops, strips and waxes floors;

            Picks up litter and vacuums carpeting;

            Washes windows, walls and woodwork;

            Dusts and polishes furniture, files, bookcases, light fixtures and paneling;

            Empties trash baskets;

            Cleans bathrooms and replenishes supplies.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Working knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment typically used in custodial work; ability to follow simple instructions; ability to operate and adjust cleaning equipment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

There are no minimum education or experience requirements for this posi­tion.
