FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class performs a variety of duties required in the operation of a school, institution or other public kitchen, serving and dining area. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Cook in charge, and is reviewed by direct observation. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK
ACTIVITIES
Sets up counter for food service;
Serves food portions from steam
table containers and from pre-measured custard cups and other dishes;
Loads dishwasher, runs dishes
through washer and stacks when completed;
Scrubs pots and other kitchen
utensils by hand;
May collect money for school lunches
and a la carte items;
Washes and pares vegetables and
assists cook with other food preparation duties;
Prepares and serves fast-food items;
Clears tables and cleans kitchen and
dining area.
FULL PERFORMANCE
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of
the application of sound sanitation in the preparation of food and maintenance
of kitchen and dining areas; some knowledge of the care and use of food service
equipment and utensils; ability to perform light manual labor; ability to
follow oral and written instructions; physical condition commensurate with the
demands of the position.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
There are no
minimum education or experience requirements for this position.
Candidates
employed in a school must attend ongoing continuing education/training as
required by the Food and Nutrition Service of the United States Department of
Agriculture.
