DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class assists the
Town Commissioner of Planning and Development in the overall administration,
planning, and coordination of the programs and operations of the Economic
Development, Land Management and Planning divisions. The incumbent is responsible for assisting in the supervision of
subordinate personnel in the performance of duties and adherence to regulations
and policies set forth. The Deputy Town
Commissioner of Planning acts for and in place of the Commissioner. In performing the duties of the position,
the incumbent exercises a considerable amount of independence, judgement and
initiative. The work is reviewed
through conferences and reports by the Commissioner and Town Board. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Assists
in administering, developing, implementing and promoting industrial and
business programs serving the interests and welfare of the Town and its people;
Assists
in the supervision, the preparation, presentation and control of the
Department’s annual budget and fiscal policies;
Manages
town-owned real properties and rentals, and coordinates with other applicable
departments;
Manages
and implements sales of surplus properties in accordance with laws and
regulations;
Supervises,
implements, and directs all matters related to the office of the Board of
Appeals;
Prepares
and updates the Town’s comprehensive plans, programs, and developmental
policies in order to provide orderly growth of the Town.

Thorough knowledge of departmental
programs, functions, activities, policies and regulations; thorough knowledge
of the principles and techniques of office management and supervision; ability
to gather, assemble and evaluate facts and evidence, and to arrive at sound and
logical conclusions; ability to delegate authority and to plan and supervise
the work of others in a manner conducive to full performance, and high morale;
ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
ability to establish effective working relationships with civic leaders, public
officials and the general public; ability to conduct difficult planning
studies, and prepare analysis, recommendations and revisions; physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
