DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class assists the Town Commissioner of Public Works in the overall administration, planning, coordination of programs and operations of the Department.  The incumbent is responsible for assisting in the supervision of subordinate personnel in their performance and adherence to regulations and policies set forth.  The Deputy acts for and in place of the Commissioner.  In performing the duties of the position the Deputy exercises a considerable amount of independence of judgment and initiative.  The work is reviewed through conferences and reports by the Commissioner and Town Board.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Assists in planning, supervising and implementing the overall programs of Maintenance, and Engineering;

            Assists in the supervision of the preparation, presentation and control of the Departments annual budget and fiscal policies;

            Assists in the supervision of construction, repair reconstruction, improvement maintenance, and snow removal for all town highways, roads, streets, sidewalks, bridges and municipal parking areas, drains, and drainage structures;

            Assists in supervision of maintenance, repairs, and alterations of the  buildings or structures used for recreational purposes;

            Assists in the supervision of construction, alteration and maintenance of docks, marinas and other similar structures of the Town;

            Has charge, and supervision and provides for the repair and routine maintenance service of vehicles owned and under Town jurisdiction;

            Recommends departmental updating procedures, policies, regulations or ordinances to make a more effective operation;

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of the overall Divisional Programs, functions, activities, policies and regulations; thorough knowledge of the principles of office management, supervision, and application thereof; ability to gather, assemble and evaluate facts and evidence as well as arrive at sound and logical conclusions; ability to delegate authority and to plan and supervise the work of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

There are no qualifications for this position as it is in the Exempt class.
