DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class assists the Town Director of Audit & Control in overseeing the administration and efficient operation of that department.  The incumbent manages and supervises the activities of subordinate professional and clerical personnel in the divisions of the Audit & Control Department.  The Deputy acts for and in place of the Director and exercises considerable initia­tive and independent judgment in performing the duties of this position.  Work is reviewed by the Town Director of Audit & Control through written reports and conferences.  Performs related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Assists in the administration, supervision and management of the purchas­ing, data processing, payroll and controller functions of the Department of Audit & Control;

          Assists in administering, managing and maintaining complete records, books and documents recording all financial transactions of the Town;

          Assists in the administration, supervision and implementation of procedures for auditing the operations, accounts and fiscal affairs of all Town departments;

          Assists in evaluating departmental budgetary forecasts and in coordinating a tentative operating budget for submission to the Town Board;

          Assists in the administration of the Town's purchasing policies and proce­dures including the preparation and review of specifications and all bidding procedures;

          Assists in the supervision and management of the various data processing services and in administering the preparation of the Town payroll.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration and public finance; thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures; good knowledge of recent developments, current literature and sources of infor­mation in public budget management; ability to analyze facts and figures and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions; ability to supervise subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
