DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class assists the Town Director of General Services in the administration and efficient operation of the various divisions of that department.  The Deputy acts for and in place of the Director and exercises considerable independent judgment and initiative in performing the duties of this position.  Administrative and technical supervision is maintained over subordinate staff.  Work is reviewed by the Director through conferences and written reports.  Performs related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Assists in the administration, supervision, management and implementation of general and technical services including supply, storage, communication, printing and street and parking lot lighting;

          Acts as the principal advisor to the Town Director of General Services with regard to departmental operations and management;

          Maintains, repairs and/or supervises the repair of all structures and equipment, except highway, owned or leased by the Town;

          Reviews work flow, operating procedures and employee utilization to identi­fy problems and recommend alternative procedures.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of the policies, regulations and laws relevant to the Department of General Services; thorough knowledge of the activities, functions, methods and procedures applicable to each departmental division; good knowledge of inventory control; ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of subordi­nate personnel in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

There are no minimum qualifications for this position as it is in the Exempt jurisdictional class.
