DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class assists the Town Director of Maritime Services with the overall administration, planning and coordination of all departmental programs and activities. The incumbent assists the Director in the supervision of subordinate personnel in their performance and adherence to departmental regulations and policies set forth. The Deputy acts for and in place of the Director and exercises a considerable amount of independence and initiative in performing the duties of this position. Work is performed under the general direction of the Town Director of Maritime Services and is reviewed through conferences and written reports. Performs related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Assists in planning, supervising and implementing the overall programs of the divisions of Marine Conservation, Waterfront Management and Marine Enforcement;

Assists with the administration and maintenance of town marinas, beaches, pump-out facilities, waterfront parks, docks, ramps and bulkheads;

Assists in supervising the enforcement of all Federal, State and Local laws regarding harbor and waterways safety, environmental and marine conservation, shellfish management, wetlands restoration and any other area of related concern;

Supervises personnel in the divisions of the Department and may be responsible for interviewing, hiring and disciplining personnel. 

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTIERISTITCS

Thorough knowledge of the overall programs, function, activities, policies, practices and regulations of each of the Department’s divisions; thorough knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws and regulations relating to marine conservation, waterfront management and marine enforcement; ability to plan and supervise the work of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to establish working relationships with civic leaders, public officials and the general public; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

There are no minimum qualifications for this position since it is in the Exempt jurisdictional class.
