DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class assists the Town Director of Parks & Recreation in the overall administration, planning and coordination of the various programs and operations of the department.  The incumbent is responsible for assisting in the supervision of subordinate personnel in their performance and adherence to departmental regulations and policies.  The Deputy acts for and in place of the Director and exercises a considerable amount of independence and initiative in performing the duties of this position.  Work is reviewed by the Town Director of Parks & Recreation through written reports and conferences.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Assists in the planning, supervision and implementation of various recrea­tional programs and projects of interest to Town residents;

          Maintains, operates or supervises the operation of all parks, golf courses, pools, skating rinks, rifle ranges, marinas, docks and other Town facilities;

          Assists in the establishment of a fee schedule, subject to Town Board approval, for services rendered by the Department, where it is deemed necessary to charge and collect a fee;

          Assists in the planning, coordination and implementation of measures to insure the proper security for Town marinas, parks and beaches;

          Recommends departmental updating of procedures, policies and regulations to promote a more effective operation.

Thorough knowledge of Federal, State and local laws and regulations relat­ing to areas of Departmental concern; thorough knowledge of the overall pro­grams, functions, activities, policies and regulations of the Department; ability to gather, assemble and evaluate facts and to arrive at sound, logical conclusions; ability to effectively delegate authority and to plan and supervise the work of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to establish effective working relationships with civic leaders, public officials and the general public; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

There are no minimum qualifications for this position since it is in the Exempt jurisdictional class.
