DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class performs varied and confidential duties associated with the day-to-day operation and administration of the Office of the County Comptroller.  A major emphasis of the position is on the confidential nature of the work involved.  The incumbent is expected to exercise a considerable amount of independent judgment, initiative and discretion in the performance of assigned duties.  Supervision is exercised over a clerical support staff and work is reviewed by the County Comptroller through conferences and written reports.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

          Coordinates the administrative duties and functions of the Office of the County Comptroller;

          Consults with and advises the County Comptroller on departmental operations and efficiency;

          Prepares correspondence and reports on County fiscal matters;

          Acts as a liaison between the County Comptroller and other governmental officials, the news media, the general public and various individuals or agencies seeking to have problems or questions addressed;

          Supervises a clerical support staff.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of the principles and procedures of public administration; thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of office management and the ability to apply these principles to office operations; ability to gather, assemble and evaluate facts and figures to arrive at sound and logical conclusions; ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with associates, employees and the general public; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of administrative experience involving responsibility for office management and staff supervision.

 

NOTE:  Relevant additional education from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university will be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years.
