COMMISSIONER OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND PLANNING 9326
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class is responsible for assisting
the Commissioner of Economic Development and Planning in the administration of
the Department of Economic Development and Planning. Responsibilities include
liaison with various departments and agencies, public relations and
coordination of special projects. The
work involves varied complex and confidential duties requiring a high degree of
discretion and independent initiative and judgment. The incumbent reports directly to the Commissioner,
who reviews work through periodic conferences and written reports. Does related work as required.
Assists
the Commissioner in developing departmental systems and procedures;
Acts as
a liaison with other departments or outside agencies;
Assists
in reconciling problems associated with the administration and operation of
departmental programs;
Monitors
and reports on progress of legislation, which affects the Department of
Economic Development and Planning;
Receives
and drafts replies to complaints;
Gathers
information for the preparation of reports, and for use in coordinating and
planning the activities of the department;
Coordinates
special departmental projects; assists in the design of services to be
delivered by the Department;
May
represent the Department at various meetings.

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of office
management and supervision and the ability to apply these principles to office
operations; thorough knowledge of the policies and programs of the Department
of Economic Development and Planning; thorough knowledge of the methods and
techniques of report preparation; ability to gather, assemble and evaluate
facts and figures and arrive at a sound and logical conclusion; ability to
prepare accurate and concise reports; ability to establish and maintain effective
and harmonious working relationships with associates, employees and the general
public; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in
writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

(a)
Graduation from a college with
federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a
Bachelor's Degree and one (1) year of
administrative experience involving responsibility for office management,
supervision, and/or public relations; or,
(b) Graduation from high school or
the possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of
administrative experience involving responsibility for office management,
supervision, and/or public relations; or,
(c) Satisfactory equivalent
combination of the above experience and education.
