DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The work involves responsibility for assisting the Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Conservation in the formulation of departmental policy and the administrative operations of the department. The incumbent acts

for and in place of the Commissioner and is required to exercise a considerable amount of independent

judgment and initiative in the performance of assigned duties. The work is performed under the supervision

of the Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Conservation and is reviewed through conferences,

consultations and the submission of required reports. Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

               Assists the Commissioner in formulating policies and procedures regarding the protection and maintenance of properties being acquired;

               Acts as liaison to the Department of Real Property relative to the management of proposed and approved park acquisitions;

               Oversees the implementation of recreation and conservation programs as they are developed by

the department;

               Acts as liaison to the County Executive's Office for special projects;

               Coordinates necessary activities with the Office of Emergency Preparedness.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Through knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal park and recreation management and

operations; thorough knowledge of laws and regulations controlling municipal parks and recreation facilities; thorough knowledge of modern administration practices; good knowledge of modern developments in recreational and conservation programs; good knowledge of budgetary principles; ability to implement recreational and conservation programs; ability to supervise the work of subordinate personnel in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;

physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in the exempt jurisdictional class, therefore, there are no minimum qualifications.
