DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under general direction, an employee in this class assists the Village Clerk Treasurer in the administration of the operations of the department. The incumbent acts for, and in place of, the Village Clerk Treasurer. The incumbent is responsible for supervising a large clerical support staff; and exercises a considerable degree of independent judgment and initiative. Work is reviewed by the Village Clerk Treasurer through conferences and written reports. Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Acts for, and in place of, the Village Clerk Treasurer;

            Maintains custody of books, official records, Village ordinances, local laws and papers;

            Attends Village Board meetings, and prepares minutes when Clerk is absent;

            Supervises a large clerical support staff; determines work assignments;

            Handles correspondence and tax bills;

            Testifies on behalf of the Village in court proceedings; prepares legal notices, and arranges for their publication;

            Issues all Village licenses, certificates and permits;

            Collects taxes; maintains financial records; signs checks; makes Village payments;

            Prepares monthly abstract of claims and reports;

            Handles administrative aspects of fringe benefits for all personnel, including retirement and social security;

            Handles minor sales of Village ordinances, maps, etc.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Some knowledge of the principles of office management and supervision; some knowledge of clerical,

record keeping and accounting procedures; ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of a large clerical

support staff in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to acquire knowledge of the

legal, administrative and procedural regulations applicable to the department; ability to promote and

maintain effective inter-departmental and public relations; ability to maintain accurate and complete records,

and to prepare reports; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical

condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

           

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in the Exempt class; and therefore, there are no minimum qualifications.
