DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Work requires the incumbent to exercise considerable amount of independent judgment and initiative in the performance of duties.  A major emphasis of the position is on the confidential nature of the work involved.  The incumbent reports to the Director, who reviews work through conferences and written reports.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Coordinates the administrative duties and functions of the Agency;

            Consults with, and advises the Director on matters concerning departmental operations and efficiency;

            Prepares correspondence, statistical reports, and reports on costs and progress;

            Acts as liaison between the Director and other departments and municipal agencies;

            Assigns and supervises the work of a small clerical support staff.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge the principles, techniques, and practices of office management; good knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and policies affecting the Traffic & Parking Violations Agency; ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to gather information and to prepare clear, accurate and comprehensive reports; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to establish effective working relationships with department employees and officials of other agencies and departments; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.        

           

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma recognized by the New York State Education Department and (3) three years of administrative experience.

 

NOTE:  Additional education beyond high school from with a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis.
