DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class assists in the planning, supervising, directing, and managing the operations of the Traffic and Parking Violations Agency.  The employee acts for and on behalf of the Executive Director on all matters. Responsibility is included for assisting in developing policies and procedures for the operation and administration of the department.  Work is reviewed through conferences and written reports.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Assists the Executive Director in the administration of the agency;

            Supervises and directs the activities of the department;

            Implements policies and procedures in the administration of departmental operations;

            Oversees day-to-day administrative matters;

            Assists the Director in managing special projects;

            Supervises the recording and reconciliation of traffic and parking tickets;

            Ensures that established policies and procedures are implemented;           

            Assists in the development of short range and long range goals for the operation of the Agency;

            Assists in preparing and administering the departmental budget;

            Monitors direct and contracted services;

            Represents the Executive Director at meetings and other activities as required;

            Oversees attorneys prosecuting cases;

            May prosecute offenders, as needed.

Comprehensive knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations involving traffic and parking violations; comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration; thorough knowledge of management and supervisory practices and principles; thorough knowledge of budgetary practices and principles; ability to plan, direct and supervise the work of a large support staff; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to analyze facts and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions; ability to identify problems, analyze information, and recommend solutions; ability to prepare, submit and analyze reports; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in the exempt class; therefore, there are no minimum qualifications.

 

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a New York State license to practice law before the Bar of the State of New York.

 

At the time of appointment and during employment, the employee must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
