DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this class is responsible for assisting the Commissioner of Information Technology in the administration of the Department of Information Technology Services. Responsibilities include acting as liaison with various departments and agencies, municipalities and outside vendors. The incumbent is expected to exercise a considerable amount of independent judgment, initiative and discretion in the performance of assigned duties. The incumbent reports directly to the Commissioner of Information Technology, who reviews work through conferences and written reports. Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Supervises the administrative, personnel and finance functions for the Department of Information Technology Services;

            Represents the Commissioner at a variety of meetings and can speak on department policies and programs;

            Acts as liaison between the Commissioner and various other departments, municipalities and outside vendors;

            Assists in the preparation of capital and operating budgets;

            Coordinates and participates in the work for special department projects.

Thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of office management and the ability to apply these principles to office operations; thorough knowledge of the policies and programs of the Department of Information Technology Services; ability to gather, assemble and evaluate facts and figures and arrive at a sound and logical conclusion; ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with representatives from other departments, municipalities and vendors; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; good judgment; tact; courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

A)     Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree and one (l) year of administrative or supervisory experience with an emphasis on information technology or,

 

B)     Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma recognized by the New York State Education Department and five (5) years of administrative or supervisory experience with an emphasis on information technology.

 

C)    Satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of A and B.
