DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class is involved in acting as liaison between the County Executive's Office and other
County departments, municipal agencies and the general public with respect to
County Executive policy; and assisting in the development of legislation
beneficial to Suffolk County. Duties
are of a high level confidential nature; and are performed under general
supervision. Responsibility is included
for overseeing the work of County Executive Assistants. Work differs from that of a County Executive
Assistant IV in the level of management responsibility. Does related work as
required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Develops, directs and
participates in the program of legislative representation for the County
Executive's Office;
Acts as liaison between
the County Executive's Office and various County departments, other municipal
jurisdictions and the general public regarding County Executive policy;
Oversees the work of
assigned County Executive Assistants and other administrative staff members;
Establishes and maintains
contacts with various organizations which have goals in harmony with the
County's interest;
Gathers and coordinates
data, and reports to supervisors on matters of high level County Executive
confidence;
Provides reports and
information on projects and programs related to the operation of County
government;
Assists in the general
management of County government.

Thorough knowledge of federal and state legislative processes and practices;
thorough knowledge of the principles and procedures of public administration;
thorough knowledge of the programs and services administered by the County
Executive's Office; thorough knowledge of the methods and techniques of office
management and organization; thorough knowledge of effective supervisory
techniques; good knowledge of the legal, administrative and procedural regulations
applicable to County government operations; ability to develop and implement
legislative goal strategies; ability to conduct studies of government, to
perform administrative research and to write reports; ability to plan, organize
and supervise the work of personnel in a manner conducive to full performance
and high morale; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships
with government officials, department heads and the general public; ability to
express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; good
judgment; tact; courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of
the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in the exempt jurisdictional class; therefore, there
are no minimum qualifications.
