DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The work involves responsibility for assisting the County Executive in the general management of the County Government.  The employee in this class carries out assignments on a variety of matters concerning various areas of County Government at the request of the County Executive.  The work is performed under the general direction of the County Executive, but requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment and initiative.  The work is reviewed through conferences, consultations and the submission of required reports.  Supervision may be exercised over subordinate professional and clerical employees.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Assists the County Executive in the general management of County government;

            Assists in the development of policies and procedures for County operations;

            Represents the County Executive at various County functions and affairs;                                                 

            Acts as liaison between the County Executive's Office and the departments of County government.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration; good knowledge of current literature, sources of information and the methods and techniques used in public administration; good knowledge of the functions and operations of the various areas of County government; good knowledge of effective supervisory techniques; ability to analyze facts and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions; ability to supervise the work of subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to represent the Office of the County Executive at various functions and affairs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, department heads and the general public; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; good judgment; tact; courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

            EXEMPT

            This position is in the exempt jurisdictional class, therefore there are no minimum qualifications.
