DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The work involves responsibility for assisting the County Executive in the administration and coordination of all areas of County government.  The employee assists in the general management of the County government, and acts as liaison between the County Executive's Office and the various divisions of the department with respect to administrative matters.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the County executive and Chief Deputy Suffolk County Executive and is reviewed through conferences, consultations and the submission of written reports.  General supervision is exercised over subordinate administrative personnel.  Does related work as required.  General supervision is on a day-to-day basis; consults with the County Executive & Chief Deputy on any and all long-range policy decisions.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

            Assists the County Executive and Chief Deputy Suffolk County Executive in the general management of the County government; assists in the development of policies and procedures for county administrative operations;

            Completes assigned duties pertaining to administrative matters concerning all areas of County Government as required by the County Executive; and Chief Deputy Suffolk County Executive;

            Represents the County Executive at various county functions and affairs;

            Acts as liaison between the County Executive's Office and departments of County government with respect to administrative matters;

            Directs and oversees the operations of the divisions of the County Executive's Office;

            Develops, revises, and implements management reporting and improvement systems; studies all programs to assure compliance with County Executive and County legislature directives and policies; recommends assistance which should be provided to county departments;

            Reviews and reports on the nature, need, efficiency and effectiveness of departments, programs and management practices, recommending any necessary changes to the agencies or County Executive, and reporting to the Chief Deputy County Executive on a daily basis.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE, KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration; thorough knowledge of current literature, sources of information and the methods and techniques used in public administration; good knowledge of the functions and operations of the divisions of the County Executive's Office, good knowledge of the legal, administrative and procedural regulations applicable to the County Executive's Office; good knowledge of effective supervisory techniques; ability to collect and analyze data on County needs; ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; good judgment; tact; courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in the exempt class; therefore there are no minimum qualifications.
