DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The work involves responsibility for
assisting the County Executive in the administration and coordination of
various areas of county government. The
employee in this class assists in the general management of the county
government, acts as a liaison between the County Executive’s Office and the
other departments of county government, and acts as an advisor to the County
Executive. The Chief Deputy County
Executive acts for and in place of the County Executive during the temporary
absence or disability of the County Executive.
The work is performed under the general direction of the County
Executive, but requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment and initiative. Work is reviewed through conferences,
consultations and the submission of required reports. General supervision is exercised over subordinate professional
and clerical employees. Does related
work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Assists
the County Executive in the general management of county government;
Assists
in the development of policies and procedures for county operations;
Represents
the County Executive at various county functions and affairs;
Performs
the administrative duties of the County Executive during the temporary absence
or disability of the County Executive;
Acts
as liaison between the County Executive’s Office and the departments of county
government;
Directs
the operations of the divisions of the County Executive’s Office.

ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Comprehensive knowledge of the
principles, practices, methods and techniques of public administration;
comprehensive knowledge of the functions and operations of the divisions of the
County Executive’s Office; thorough knowledge of current literature, sources of
information and the methods and techniques used in public administration;
thorough knowledge of the areas of county government; good knowledge of the
legal, administrative and procedural regulations applicable to the areas of
county government; good knowledge of effective supervisory techniques; ability
to analyze facts and to exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions;
ability to collect and analyze data on county needs; ability to plan, organize
and supervise the work of subordinates in a manner conducive to full
performance and high morale; ability to represent the Office of the County
Executive at various functions; ability to express oneself clearly and
concisely, both orally and in writing; good judgment; tact; courtesy; physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

This position is in the exempt
jurisdictional class; therefore there are no minimum qualifications.
