DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class performs
confidential secretarial work for an elected judicial officer in a municipality
as described in Section 41 (D) of the New York State Civil Service Law. Appendix A of the Suffolk County Civil
Service Rules set forth the specific positions which have been approved in the
exempt class by the New York State Civil Service Commission. Personal characteristics, not measurable by
competitive examination, such as trustworthiness and compatibility with
department or agency philosophy are essential to satisfactory performance of
the job. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Responsible for preparing
confidential letters and correspondence;
Receives, and sorts incoming
mail;
Replies to inquiries from the
public and other departments and agencies;
Screens and routes calls,
schedules meetings and prepares reports;
Responsible for maintaining accurate
and up-to-date files of department activities and correspondence.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS,
ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of the philosophy and
method of operation of the department;
ability to perform clerical and related office duties in a confidential and
responsible manner; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in
writing; ability to establish effective working relationships with elected
judicial officers, local officials and the general public; physical conditions
commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in the exempt
jurisdictional class; therefore, there are no minimum qualifications.
