DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under general direction, an employee in this class coordinates the activi­ties of the village government for the Mayor's office and the Village Board of Trustees.  The incumbent performs duties in the area of budget preparation, property assessing, building inspection and other major areas of responsibility.  Supervision may be exercised over Village employees.  Direction is received from the Mayor and the Board of Trustees through conferences and oral and written reports.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

         Under direction of the Mayor and Board of Trustees, performs administrative and related duties in the day-to-day operation of village government;

          Prepares preliminary village budget for submission to Board of Trustees;

          Approves building plans; inspects new construction to ensure compliance with mandated laws, statues and ordinances;

          Prepares public works recommendations and contracts for approval by the Mayor and/or Board of Trustees;

          Acts as Village Assessor, prepares tax rolls annually;

          Approves expenditures and signs checks.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration, munici­pal organization and the areas of authority of village, town, county state and federal agencies; Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; Knowledge of the principles and methods employed in contract bidding; Knowledge of the principles of municipal finance and budget preparation; Knowledge of building construction, materials and costs; Ability to gather and evaluate facts and to arrive at sound and logical conclusions; Ability to maintain tactful and harmonious relationships with and between village personnel, governmental agencies and the general public; Ability to plan the work of subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in the exempt class; therefore there are no minimum qualifications.
