DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE
CLASS
An employee in this class
performs responsible duties on behalf of the mayor of a village. The incumbent assists in discharging the
duties of the chief executive officer of a village. The incumbent is supervised directly by the mayor, and may
supervise other personnel. Does related
work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Assists
the mayor as chief administrator of a village hall staff;
Represents
the mayor at meetings and events related to civic groups, business groups,
volunteer services and professional organizations;
Coordinates
and provides liaison with the mayor's office for local activities such as
concerts, parades, sporting events, celebrations, etc.;
Coordinates
handling of snow emergencies;
Assists
the mayor in overseeing efficient code enforcement activity;
Represents
the mayor in collective bargaining sessions;
Represents
management at grievance and arbitration proceedings.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES,
SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of the methods
and techniques of office management and organization; good knowledge of the
principles and procedures of public administration; ability to develop and
maintain good rapport with community groups; ability to handle village dealings
with labor groups and individual hearings efficiently and fairly; ability to
express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical
condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from a standard
senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and one
(1) year of administrative or supervisory experience.
NOTE: 30 credits earned at a New
York State or regionally accredited college or university may be substituted
for the one year of administrative or supervisory experience.
