Overview

Course Details

  • This course provides the training necessary to test for the Suffolk County Limited Food Manager’s Certificate.
  • A person with a valid Food Safety/Food Protection Certificate issued by an approved authority is required to be in each food service establishment during all hours of operation.
  • The course is designed to fit into your busy schedule by allowing you to start and stop the class at your convenience and allowing 45 days for completion of the class. The course is divided into 16 lessons, each of which will take you about 1/2 hour to finish. There is a short quiz at the end of each section. You must spend a minimum of 5 minutes reviewing a lesson before you can take a quiz. You must answer all of the quiz questions in each section correctly before you can move on to the next section. If you fail to answer all quiz questions correctly, you are required to spend an additional 5 minutes reviewing the lesson before taking the quiz again.
  • After you register, you will receive an email confirming your user id (your email address) and password. You will need your user ID and password each time you login to the website.

Taking the Exam

  • After you have successfully completed all 16 lessons, you must register to come and take the final exam at our Yaphank office. You'll receive a confirmation number that you must bring with you to the exam, along with a driver's license or other official photo identification. A fee of $40 is charged to all students to take the final exam. Payment for the final exam must be made when scheduling an exam date. A service fee will be charged for all credit card payments. Please be advised that the exam fee is non-refundable.
  • The final exam consists of 34 multiple-choice questions and lasts one hour. You must answer 75% or more of the questions correctly to receive your Limited Food Manager’s Certificate. If you fail to achieve the minimum passing score, you can register for the Limited Oral Exam, or retake the Online Limited Course. There is no additional fee to take the online course and exam a second time, nor the oral exam.

How much does the course cost and how do I pay?

A service fee will be charged for all credit card payments. Checks and money orders are accepted as payment if presented in person, or received by mail in advance of the exam date. Cash payment is not accepted. Please be advised that the exam fee is non-refundable.
What happens if I fail the exam?
You can register for the Limited Oral Exam, or retake the Online Limited Course. There is no additional fee to take the online course and exam a second time, nor the oral exam.

Directions:

 
  • Using the Long Island Expressway (Route 495) go to exit 67- Yaphank Avenue South. The building is the first, 2 story brick building on your right (a clock tower is on the roof).
  • Using the Sunrise Highway (Route 27) go to exit 57N (north), bear right at the fork in the road to Yaphank Avenue. Continue north on Yaphank Avenue for approximately 3 miles. 360 Yaphank Avenue is the last 2 story brick building on the left before the Expressway Service Road.
  • The Main Entrance is at the south side of the building where the tall flag pole is located. Room 134W is located on the first floor of the building.
