In 2017, the Suffolk County Opioid Task Force was established by the County to provide guidance and input to combat the opioid epidemic. They focus on prevention education, law enforcement and judicial courts efforts, and treatment and rehabilitation. Membership includes representatives from the:
- Suffolk County Legislature
- Suffolk County Police Department
- Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department
- Suffolk County Probation Department
- Suffolk County Department of Health
- Suffolk County Office of the Medical Examiner
- Local rehabilitation and treatment providers
- Advocacy groups
- Hospitals
- Suffolk County Superintendent’s Association
The panel uses a collaborative approach to work on this issue. As leaders in their fields, the panel members bring diverse experiences and perspectives to the panel. This brings communities and agencies together, focusing their collective energies.
In 2021, the Task Force’s name was changed to the Suffolk County Addiction Prevention and Support Advisory Panel. The Panel meets quarterly and holds two public hearings annually. As per the resolution, a report will be filed with the Legislature in December of each year. The annual report highlights the initiatives that have been advanced that year, as well as future items the Panel will work on. The panel is committed to supporting activities that will reduce the number of opioid overdoses Suffolk County. As part of the settlement terms, conditions have been placed on how the monies from the settlement can be used. The document, which lists these approved uses, is called the “Schedule C”. Each program selected to receive a Suffolk County Opioid Settlement Fund award was aligned with the approved uses in the Schedule C.
The Schedule C was posted to the Suffolk County Opioid Settlement Fund application portal. All applicants were encouraged to thoroughly review the document before submitting any proposals. Please use the following link to access the Schedule C: Schedule C

The Division of Community Mental Hygiene Services (part of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services) publishes the Suffolk County Directory of Behavioral Health Services. The Directory features local Suffolk County agencies and programs that provide a wide range of behavioral health services. These services are mental health, substance use, and supportive programs for the community. This includes programs that provide prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery services.
